Beaucaire, le 17 décembre. Eh bien, beaucoup d'espoir mis dans ce salon qui était organisé pour la première fois dans cette ville. Proche de Noël aussi, nous espérions tous un très bon moment, et nous avons été déçus. Trop d'auteurs, selon beaucoup de commentaires. On n'arrive pas a faire comprendre aux organisateurs qu'un salon avec beaucoup d'auteurs et peu de ventes n'est pas un succès, et qu'il faut restreindre le nombre d'auteurs. Un public très moyen, ventes très moyennes, voire nulles. Et pas d'apéro - alors que cela fait partie intégrante d'un salon !

Beaucaire, 17 December. Well, we all went there with a lot of hope. It was the first time the town was having a book fair and it was close to Christmas. We all thought we'd do well. Quite the opposite. Too many authors and too few visitors who didn't buy much, and even didn't buy a thing. There seems to be no way of getting organisers to understand that a lot of authors and few sales means the fair was not a success, and therefore not to have so many authors. There was no "apéro" either at midday which was not quite the thing - there's always an "apéro" - drinks and nibbles with the organisers and town council representatives.

Saint-Vincent de Barrès, 19 novembre. Beau petit village médiéval. J'ai retrouvé trois collègues du Cercle et fait des rencontres. Nous étions sept au total, mais nous étions un peu à l'écart du reste du marché artisanal où il y avait d'autres stands ailleurs livresques. Donc, pas beaucoup de public pour nous et pas beaucoup de ventes. Dommage, car on avait mis beaucoup d'espoirs, vu qu'on n'était pas nombreux.

Saint-Vincent de Barrès, 19 November. Beautiful little Medieval village. There were seven of us, and four were from the Circle. However, we were upstairs and not with the rest of the crafts market and there were other stands elsewhere with books. So the public was not really present for us. We did not do good business. A great pity, as hopes were high since there were only a few of us.

Saint-Martin de Valgalgues, 5 novembre. Nous étions très bien reçus et le matin a vu pas mal de monde passer et repartir avec des livres sous le bras. Le maire m'a acheté mon "Meurtres aux vans" ! Un bon début. Repas délicieux offert. L'après-midi était tout le contraire du matin. Soupir. J'ai retrouvé deux collègues du Cercle et nous avons pu bien discuter ensemble.

Saint-Martin de Valgalgues, 5 November. Very good organisation and there were quite a lot of people during the morning who left with books under their arms. The mayor bought my Les Vans murders novel!  A good start to the day. Delicious meal supplied by the organisers. However the afternoon was the opposite of the morning. We could have a really good siesta - which I did in fact. There were two members of the Circle there and so we had a good chat.

Brahic, le 28 octobre. Nous avions été invités par l'association du village à venir animer la castagnade avec des lectures. J'étais avec Jean Tirelli, Françoise Barry, Marinette Mazoyer. Deux lectures sont devenues des sketchs - me voici dans "Marthe" avec Jean. Mais, il faut dire que nous n'avons pas été bien reçus. Il y avait du monde pour les châtaignes, comme d'habitude, mais peu sont venus nous écouter. Pourtant, mes amis ont fait une heure de route pour venir. Le président de l'association a été fort désagréable. C'et à ne rien y comprendre. Ceux qui sont venus nous écoutés ont bien aimé, je pense.

Brahic, 28 October. We were invited by the village association to give a show of readings during the roasted chestnuts do. I was with Jean Tirelli, Françoise Barry and Marinette Mazoyer. Two readings became sketches - there's me as "Marthe" with Jean. However, I must say that we were not well looked after. There were a lot of people for the chestnuts, as usual, but hardly anyone came to listen to us. The association's president was most disagreeable. Rather puzzling. Those who came along enjoyed themselves, I think.

Joyeuse Automnales, 22 octobre. Une très bonne journée. Nous n'étions que 10, le publique était nombreux et intéressé, qui achetait et j'ai vendu pas mal de livres. De quoi remonter le moral !

Une intronisation a eu lieu. Je suis tout au bout à droite.

Joyeuse, 22 October. The "Autumnals". Very good day. There were ten of us. A lot of people came and left with books under their arms. I sold quite a few. That bumped up the moral a bit. The Brotherhood held a ceremony to welcome a new member. I'm on the far right.

Lagorce, 17 septembre. Ceux qui étaient dehors ont eu de la chance, il faisait beau après la pluie du samedi. Malheureusement cela n'a pas encouragé le public de venir, malgré le fait que c'était aussi le week-end des journées du patrimoine. Beaucoup d'entre nous n'ont pas eu une journée fructueuse. C'est dommage, car les organisateurs nous reçoivent commes des rois.

Lagorce, 17 Sepember. Those who were outside were lucky as it was a nice bright day, after the rain we'd had on Saturday. Unfortunately we didn't see as many people as we had expected, in spite of it being the Heritage week-end where there are usually a lot of people visiting the village. So a lot of us did not have a very fruitful day. It's a pity because the organisers really go to town for us.

Rivières, le 16 août. Il faisait chaud, avec un vent qui a essayé de nous rafraîchir, sans beaucoup de succès. Pas autant de public que l'on aurait espérer. La bibliothèque a acheté un livre à chacun des participants. Il y avait aussi des musiciens, et parfois on (eh bien moi, tout au moins) avait envie de danser avec la musique !

Rivières, 16 August. It was very hot but there was a wind that did its best to cool us down, but not with much success. Not as many visitors as we expected. However the LIbrary bought a book from each of us. There were also some musicians and sometimes the music made us (well me) want to get up and dance!

Chassagnes, 29 Juillet. C'était la fête du village !!! J'étais censée lire ! Légèrement impossible. Un orage violent, de la pluie. Pour une fois une photo de là où j'aurais dû lire.

Chassagnes, 29 July. It was supposed to be the village fete and I was supposed to read something. Instead, down came the rain, along came the storm and, well...

Joyeuse, le 23 juillet. "Estivales", un petit salon organisé par le Cercle. Oh là là, journée hyper chaude, même si j'étais à l'ombre - pour la plupart du temps. Malheureusement pour nous tous, le public n'y était pas. Dommage !

Joyeuse, 23 July. "Estivales" - Summer. A small fair organised by the Circle. It was a very hot day, even if I was in the shade for most of the time. But sad to say, not many people came to see us. Such a pity!

Collège Roqua, Aubenas, le 12 juin. J'étais interviewée par Milla, élève en 4ème, pour la radio du collège, Info RC. Elle m'a posé des questions sur mon parcours et mon écriture ; nous avons écouté un morceau de musique qui m'avait inspiré une scène ("It's Over", ELO) ce qui a soulevé la question de l'inspiration. Cette interview est diffusé sur 88.6 / 97.2 FM et aussi sur internet. D'après les photos alignées sur les murs du studio d'enregistrement, les animateurs font appel à des personnes très diverses. Une expérience très intéressante et un accueil des plus chaleureux. Milla était très professionnelle.

Roqua Secondary School, Aubenas, 12 June. I was interviewed by Milla, a 3rd year pupil, for Info RC, the school radio. She asked me questions about how I'd come to write and how I wrote. We listened to a song that had inspired a scene in a book ("It's Over" by ELO), and that led to talking about inspiration in general. The interview goes out on 88.6 / 97.2 FM and can be listened to on line. From the photos on the walls, a lot of quite different people have been interviewed. This was a most interesting experience in a very friendly atmosphere. Milla did a very good job.

Aiguèze, le 11 juin. Une journée pour les auteurs et les photographes. Une belle journée ensoleillée dans un beau village. Accueil très chaleureux. Beaucoup de passants - qui passaient, mais ne s'arrêtaient pas souvent, dommage. 

Aiguèze, 11 June. It was a fair for authors and photographers, in a lovely medieval village. The sun shone brightly and it was lovely and warm, just like the welcome we all got. A lot of passers-by who passed by but didn't often stop, more's the pity.

Lablachère, le 19 avril. J'étais invitée par le groupe d'anglais pour parler de mon expérience chez les Mormons et les stratégies utilisées et ce qu'on peut faire. Evidemment il fallait parler en anglais ! Ils ont apprécié mon intervention et l'échange - en anglais - était vivant et très intéressant.

Lablachère, 19 April. I was invited by the English group to talk about my experience with the Mormons and the methods used and what we can do. I had to speak in English of course! They appreciated what I had to say and the discussion - in English - was lively and interesting.

Ruoms, le 12 mars. Une soirée ciné-débat, commençant avec un film "Les Eblouis" qui traite le sujet des sectes, suivi par un débat autour du sujet. Chantal, l'organisatrice m'avait rencontré lors d'un salon l'an passé et a voulu organiser cet événement. Avec moi se trouvait Gabrielle, une femme qui a vu sa maman mourir parce la secte qui l'avait embrigadé l'avait encouragé à cesser de se soigner alors qu'elle était malade. Elle-même n'a pu rien faire pour sauver sa mère. Le public lui a posé beaucoup de questions. Du coup, moi, qui n'ai pas eu le même parcours, je n'ai pas vraiment eu l'opportunité d'en parler, alors que je considère que les sectes "douces" font autant de mal, mais on en parle moins. Dommage. Je suis repartie déçue, je l'avoue. Je m'attendais à autre chose qu'une simple témoignage, et je voulais appuyer sur mon livre "Le baiser de Judas" et voir un débat autour de "comment aider une victime".

Ruoms, 12 March. This was an evening with a film and a debate concerning sects, organised by Chantal who'd met me at a fair and had jumped on my book. She also invited Gabrielle, a woman whose mother had died because the sect she was in had encouraged her to stop her medical treatment. She was unable to get her mother out of the clutches of the sect. The public asked her a lot of questions, and as a result I didn't have the time to tell my story. A pity because I think the less aggressive sects do as much harm as the radical ones. I went home rather disappointed in fact because I'd been expecting something else, and I'd been hoping to illustrate my side of things with my book, and deal more with the question of helping a victim.

Vogüé, le 3 mars. Une soirée de lectures à Vogüé avec Jean, Pierre-Antoine et Roland pour les lectures et Alice pour ses photos (elle n'aime pas lire à haute voix), organisée par la bibliothèque. La première fois depuis le Covid. Une très bonne soirée, très bonne ambiance, bon public qui s'est rué sur nos livres avant qu'on commence à lire !! Nous avons pu faire quatre lectures chacun (la quatrième en "bis" !), et on a bien ri - aussi bien nous que le public. J'ai osé faire mon "anti-poème" que j'ai accompagné avec mon psaltérion. Un succès ! A refaire.

Vogüé 3 March. I was in Vogüé with Jean, Pierre-Antoine and Roland for an evening of readings, along with Alice who was showing some photos (she doesn't like reading aloud), organised by the library. It was the first time since Covid. A very good evening, great atmosphere, lovely public who jumped all over our books before we even started reading anything!! We each read four texts (the fourth for an encore!), and we all had a good laugh - us and the public. I had the courage to do my "anti-poem" with the psalterion, and it went down very well. I must do it again.
